Electronic Delivery of Services Bill, 2011

The Union Cabinet has approved the Electronic Delivery of Service Bill, 2011 aimed at ensuring all public services from central and state governments are accessible electronically within eight years, excluding Jammu and Kashmir.

Services like passports, ration cards, and driving licenses will be provided electronically, with each authority required to list eligible services within 180 days. The Bill mandates the establishment of grievance redressal mechanisms and updating standards for electronic governance periodically for interoperability and security. There is also a requirement for setting up of Central and State Commissions to oversee implementation, comprising experienced non-political appointees, monitoring service delivery quality and recommending process simplifications.
