As reported by the Economic Times, the government has finalized the draft rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023 and plans to release them for public consultation in the second or third week of August 2024. This is significant as the DPDP cannot be enforced without rule making that covers notice requirements, functions of the consent manager, procedures for data breach notifications, parental consent for children’s data, grievance redressal, exemptions for processing personal data, and redressal procedures.
